Vanderpool Volunteer Fire and Rescue

located within the boundary of the
"Utopia-Vanderpool-ESD"

This Vanderpool, Texas based Department/Service Provider
covers portions of Bandera and Real counties.
Approximately one-third of the ESD.

The department has been saving money from donations and fund raising for several years to expand the capabilities for better service to the community.  We began using those funds by expanding the fire station to make room for a Tanker/Tender and an additional brush truck.

Phase I - Expanding the Fire Station building

We are adding three bays onto the North end of the existing building with electric doors and an outside covered storage area on the South end of the existing building.  The project began in the spring of 2009 with dirt work on the project. After allowing the fill to settle and stabilize, the two slabs were added in the summer. One 30' x 11' slab on the South and one 30' x 40' slab on the North.

In October the iron work framing began on the structure, followed by the insulation and outside metal in November.  Doors were installed in December.

PHASE I - Completed - December 2009

PHASE II  - New Tanker/Tender

We applied for a Texas Forest Service 'purchase assistance grant', for a 2500 gal E-One WaterMaster Tender/Tanker.  There are no fire plugs in our rural area and we are in need of a tanker/tender to provide a source of water for wildland and structure fires and during the extreme droughts. The grant was awarded in the fall of 2010.

PHASE III - New Brush Truck
Our old 1997 Chevy brush truck is having lots of repair issues and is in need of being replaced. We hope to have the funds this year to obtain a replacement.
Update- October 2010, we finally have enough funds to purchase a new brush truck. We've ordered a Ford F550, extended bed, 4wd, extended cab and chassis from Grande Ford in San Antonio. We're scheduled to have the fire bed built by WesTex Fire Apparatus in West, Tx.

PHASE IV - Exit/Entrance Improvement
This phase will provide a smoother transition from the building to the front exit and the rear entrance, as well as improve the grade at the rear entrance. Also to include a drive around the North end of the station from the highway to the rear entrance. Scheduled for completion 9/2011. This whole area will be double chip sealed for protection. The work is being done by Chastain Excavation of Bandera, Tx.
