ICE is a campaign encouraging people to enter an
emergency contact number in their mobile/cell phone's memory under
the heading of "ICE". This campaign is the brainchild of
Bob Brotchie, a paramedic who works as a clinical team leader.
The campaign to get people to store "In Case of Emergency"
(ICE) information was launched in May 2005. ICE allows
paramedics, rescue, or police to be able to contact a designated
relative/next-of-kin in an emergency situation. By
creating the ICE entry in your phone's memory, you may help rescue
services quickly contact a friend or relative, which could be vital
in a life-or-death situation. Why
not put ICE in you phone now by creating the ICE contact?
These features will vary by cell phone make and model
1. Open you address book in your cell
phone.
2. Create a New Contact
3. Contact name should be ICE
You can add
more ICE contacts by using ICE-mom, ICE-wife, etc.
4. Enter the contact phone number. useful
tip:
Use a "." in front of the first letter to make your ICE
contact the first entry (i.e. ".ICE") hints
for selecting you ICE contact:
a. Be sure the person whose number you are
listing has agreed to be your ICE contact.
b. Your ICE contact person should also have
a list of people to contact on your behalf and be aware of any
medical conditions that could affect your emergency treatment.
c. Make sure the ICE contact's number is
one that easy to reach, for example a home number for a person that
works full time would be almost useless.
d. If you are under 18, make sure the ICE
contact person is a parent, guardian, or someone legally authorized
to make a decision on your behalf. Let's hope
you never need this service.
